Situated in the heart of South Australia’s beautiful Clare Valley, Taylors Wines has fast become a trusted name for producing a range of wines that is not only friendly on the taste buds, but also friendly on the environment.
Sustainable vineyard practices is a philosophy that has carried on throughout three generations of wine making for Taylors, who have always held a solid commitment to maintaining environmental excellence throughout their ever changing winemaking techniques and processes.
Having recently launched the world’s first 100% carbon neutral wine range Eighty Acres, Taylors have worked hard to ensure an environmental philosophy is maintained throughout the life cycle of the wine making process for this range, from using water efficient and sustainable vineyard practices through to light-weight glass packaging. Recognised for its efforts, Taylors were recently announced as the winner of the 2010 Banksia Environment Awards Leading in Sustainability award, as well as awarded the NAB Agribusiness National Award for Environmental and Energy Management.
Jeffries has worked in partnership with Taylors for many years now to create and supply custom blend products for the vineyards to assist towards reaching these goals, with careful consideration given to the products used to ensure alignment with other vine management practices.
Colin Hinze, Viticulturist for Taylors believes that soil management is a key to continuing to meet their objectives of sustainable vineyard practices. “The use of recycled organic matter is an obvious method of improving and maintaining soil health, water conservation, nutrient availability, and general vine health” he says.
As two family businesses that place great importance on protecting the environment for future generations to come, it’s not hard to see why the relationship between Jeffries and Taylors has flourished over the years. We look forward to continuing to step in the right direction with Taylors, inspiring others to work towards leaving a healthy footprint for future generations to enjoy.
